Mikkayla Ashdon

Dancing for over 15 years, and teaching for ten, Mikkayla has loved dance all her life and began teaching and choreographing in her teens. Mikkayla grew up dancing locally in Sunbury where she developed a love and passion for dance. Choreographing school productions and assistant teaching through high school Mikkayla knew that dance was always going to be what she pursued after graduating, with an ultimate goal of owning and directing her own dance school.

After high school she went on to study a Bachelor of Creative Arts Degree with a major in Dance and a minor in Health Science at Deakin University and graduated in 2014 with High Distinction. During her time at Deakin Mikkayla gained strong knowledge in contemporary dance technique, safe dance practices, anatomy, physiology and nutrition, as well as choreographic skills and also produced performances alongside other dancers.
After graduating from her Bachelor Degree Mikkayla moved on to a year dedicated to full time dance training in all genres of dance including jazz, ballet, lyrical, hip hop, tap, musical theatre and singing at Dance Factory in Melbourne. Mikkayla completed her full-time training in 2015 and went on to then commence a Masters Degree in Primary and Secondary Education with Deakin University. With a keen interest now in working with special needs children Mikkayla is also now qualified in Education Support and is currently working in a primary school.
Mikkayla has been teaching dance within both dance schools and primary and secondary schools since she was 17 years old and has gained valuable experience teaching students from ages 2 to adults. Mikkayla teaches various styles of dance and has also completed a teacher’s course with the Acrobatic Dance Association. In addition to this, she has since become an Affiliate Member of COMDANCE. In 2017 Mikkayla established Bound Dance with partner Jesse Ashdon and their dream of owning their very own dance school was a reality. Mikkayla has also performed and continues to perform for various choreographers and dance companies around Victoria.

Our Staff

Bethany Elcock

"I am a bubbly individual with a big love for all things dance. I love teaching and I prioritise safe dance training and a fun environment in my dance classes.

I’ve been dancing since the age of 4 and found my passion for dance in my teen years. I began to take as many dance classes as I could in as many styles as possible, as well as competing locally, regionally and nationally. I’m originally from country Victoria but moved to Melbourne to pursue a career in dance. I completed my full time dance training at Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance from 2019-2020, receiving both a Diploma of Dance and Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management.

I have been teaching since the age of 17 in a variety of dance styles, age groups and skill levels. I am an Acrobatic Arts certified teacher having completed my Module 1 training in 2017 and Module 2 training in 2020. I’ve found my favorite thing about dance teaching is my ability to nurture young students’ passion for dance. Personally, there is no greater feeling than helping my students achieve a skill they have worked so hard on, seeing them grin from ear to ear in my classes, and watching them dance their hearts out in the studio and on stage."

Crystal has also participated in many workshops around Australia over the years learning from different choreographers all around the country as well as having the opportunity to perform in many events both interstate and around Melbourne.

Upon graduating Crystal has been spending her weekdays and Saturdays sharing her passion and giving back to the dance community. As a teacher, Crystal’s aim is to provide a fun and supportive environment where students are free to grow and express themselves creatively.
